Temping in London/Slough/Reading

I am currently waiting (and will possibly be waiting for some months) for the various bits of paperwork associated with new!shiny!job to be completed. Thesis, on the other hand, is looking quite hopeful: I'm optimistic about getting a final draft to my supervisor by the end of next week and hopefully submitting shortly thereafter.

So I'm about to have an excess of free time and a shortage of money, so the natural solution seems to be temping. Has anyone got any recommendations for temp agencies in London/Slough/Reading? Or questions I should think about before applying to them? Something that took advantage of a scientific background would clearly be ideal, but to be honest I'm just looking for something marginally better paid than pulling pints at Wetherspoons!

I did some private GCSE maths tuition last year. It's interesting, and quite well paid (£23 an hour - 20% agency commission = £18.40). Probably not quite what you're looking for, but it's another option...

I'm sure everyone's sick of me saying this, but NFER might have marking vacancies for scientists, or other temporary work. Maybe e-mail Pat in the first instance if you are interested: pat.bhullar@nfer.ac.uk

IoE pays good temporary rates (min. £10/hour) and is big enough that you can probably find different projects to work on as one runs out, but the inefficiency of the infrastructure might depress you. Let me know if you're interested and I'll find out more.

I know nothing of temping agencies.

Many thanks - you may or may not be gratified to hear that I remembered your earlier posts about this, and had planned on contacting NFER. I've just dropped an e-mail to Pat Bhullar so we'll see if there's anything going!

And I've just recalled - that may be the incorrect e-mail format, sorry! If it bounces back, try p.bhullar@nfer.ac.uk

I have had good experiences with Crone Corkill in Reading (they have other offices inc. London). I may be able to officially refer you there if you like. I have had admin/secretarial work through them. Have a look at their site and let me know if I can be of use.

A referral would be great - many thanks! I'll see if the company [livejournal.com profile] midnightmelody mentions has anything that could keep me occupied for the whole time and if not I'll come begging. :)
